Geez. they don't know how the human reproductive system works, and they want to pass laws about it; they don't know how guns work, and they want to pass laws ...
Here's a better question: What can a semi-automatic rifle, like the one used in Sandy Hook, do?

Sorry. The National Firearms Act of 1934 specifies "machine guns," which are, by definition, fully automatic.
And an assault rifle has to have selective fire (switchable to fully auto or burst fire). So technically, even the AR-15 (the civilian version of the M-16) isn't an assault rifle. Despite the fact that the only difference between the AR-15 and M-16 is a piece of metal smaller than the tip of your pinky.
That's why the Federal Assault Weapons Ban specifies "Weapon", not "Rifle" - there's no specific, legal definition of an assault weapon.
I'd say it's all very technical, but it's actually just very politicized.
I'm not sure of your point. Murdoch asked for a ban
on automatic--aka machine--guns, and the 1934
act did that. I didn't mention assault rifles coz I've
seen many definitions for what is one.
Hey, completely OT, but I can’t seem to reply to the email you sent through my blog (I get a “failure to deliver” notification every time, even using your three email addresses I have). Maybe send me another email with any other addresses I might not have tried or something? (Or try installing chat again, if you’re not still peeved at Gchat for the headache it gave you last time. :P)
